It is a matter of sweetness

The grapes from which Prosecco DOC is produced are mainly Glera grapes, a typical quality of north-eastern Italy since the Roman times.

Glera is a type of white grape: its branches have a dark hazelnut color and produce a large quantity of pleasant straw-coloured bunches.

If we consider only the sugar content, which means the quantity of sugar in the wine, we can identify different types of Prosecco DOC Spumante.

0 – 3 g/litre
Brut Nature
Prosecco DOC Spumante Brut Nature has a sugar content between 0 and 3 g/litre.
0 – 6 g/litre
Extra Brut
Prosecco DOC Spumante Extra Brut has a sugar content between 0 and 6 g/litre.
Less than 12
g/litre Brut
Prosecco DOC Spumante Brut has a sugar content below 12 g/litre.
12 – 17 g/litre
Extra Dry
Prosecco DOC Spumante Extra Dry has a sugar content between 12 and 17 g/litre
17 – 32 g/litre.
Dry
