Prosecco was granted Controlled Designation of Origin status on 17 July 2009 and, on 19 November of the same year, the Consorzio di Tutela del Prosecco DOC was set up. The Protection Consortium is an institution whose role is to coordinate and manage the Controlled Designation of Origin.
It brings together voluntarily the different groups of producers - individual or associated vine-growers, wine and sparkling wine producers - to ensure the designation continues to grow and that the production regulations are complied with.
THE AIMS OF THE PROTECTION CONSORTIUM ARE:
To protect and safeguard the quality of the product
To promote and develop the product
To provide consumers with information
To monitor correct use of the Designation
To manage the general interests of the Designation
The Consortium is regulated by its Articles of Association, approved by its members and MIPAAF (the Ministry of Agricultural and Forestry Policies) and by European and Italian regulations.
